Q: What motivates you?
A: Am personally motivated. Like difficult, long term challenges. Climbing big mountains is perfect for me.

A: Taking it out and beating it up
Q: Which 8000er did you find the hardest mentally? and why?
A: Mentally = Annapurna. Due to dangers in attempting it
Q: Does climbing Rainier still give you a thrill?
A: It’s the people that make it interesting while I’m guiding. It’ll always be a great climb!
Q: How do you help someone decide whether or not they are fit to take on a challenge like Everest?
A: Evaluate them on other mountains. Even on Everest, evaluate them every step of the way.
Q: How do you deal with number 1 and number 2 at elevation. do you wear a catheter? special tent?
A: #1 = pee in bottle. #2 = must exit tent no matter the conditions. Ensure face is to wind and back end away from wind.
Q: How do you feel about the role of tech. in modern mountaineering? Do you like being connected or is something lost?
A: Primary reason for connection is family. Love it for that.
Q: Will you be climbing Everest again? and does it get easier each time?
A: Never say never. But probably not. It gets easier mentally but not physically
Q: What’s your fav food/drink while @ altitude?
A: Sweet, warm tea even in my water bottle and snacks like peanuts, crackers, beef jerky, and power gels
Q: What is your favorite meal when you return from an expedition?
A: Big salad, gigantic
