Today is a great day at EB world headquarters because we are pleased to welcome deep Washington local and world-class skier Andy Mahre to our guide and athlete team. With deep roots in Washington, Mahre brings a unique creative angle to the world of pro skiing and is a true veteran in the field having been sponsored since the age of 15. Skiing with a true creative approach that integrates all aspects of featured terrain, Mahre has established himself as a progressive force in the filming discipline and an inspiration to a new generation of skiers, pushing the sport through creative flow, degree of difficulty and showing that whether forwards or backwards, and often without poles, that the mountain is a venue for individual freeskiing expression.
Born and raised in Washington, Mahre grew up in a legendary ski family with a father and uncle—Steve and Phil—who earned the gold and silver medals in the 1984 Olympics. But the younger Mahre traded slalom gates for freestyle trickery and sled-access filiming, establishing him at the forefront of a new breed of skier. Season after season, his footage with Nimbus Independent, Warren Miller and Poor Boyz Productions has set a new standard for progression—always with a trademark style that crushed convention by blending freestyle influences with smooth, all-mountian flow.
The Mayor will find himself at home amongst several other renowned world-class skiers on the Eddie Bauer First Ascent guide and athlete team including Reggie Crist, Lexi Dupont, Lel Tone and Lynsey Dyer. In addition to Eddie Bauer, Mahre is also sponsored by Dakine, EVO, K2 Skis and MARKER, and has stacked an impressive resume of film segments with Poor Boyz Productions, Nimbus Independent and most recently appears in Warren Miller’s newest big-screen ski movie, Ticket to Ride.
Welcome to the team Mr. Mahre. —LYA Editor
