New Eddie Bauer ski team member KC Deane has been selected to represent Team Americas in the Swatch Skier’s Cup, which runs from January 4th to January 10th in Zermatt, Switzerland. The fourth incarnation of the event matches the world’s best big mountain freeskiers in a team based, head-to head, Europe vs. North America format in the disciplines of backcountry slopestyle and big mountain skiing. The North Americans lost the first Skier’s Cup in Valle Nevado, Chile then battled back in 2012 to even the score at 1-1. Last winter, the event migrated to Europe for the first time with the euros making the most of home slope advantage to earn bragging rights and take a 2-1 advantage.
Deane was selected for the event by Team Americas captain J.P. Auclair, due to the result of his performance in the 2013 Skier’s Cup and his experience on the Skier’s Cup stage. “KC is a hard worker and is professional as can be,” says Auclair. “He’s one who can put his head down and achieve what he wants. Along with Cody [Townsend], KC is a Skier’s Cup veteran, so we’re counting on his experience to help the team.”
We’ll be tracking Deane’s progress through the four rounds of the event—which starts tomorrow if conditions permit— on the Eddie Bauer Facebook page and on the Live Your Adventure blog. For now, we’ve posted a video preview of the event, but we’ll be cheering on Mr. Deane as he flies the flag for American freeskiing on foreign terrain. —LYA Editor
