With Eddie Bauer’s official return to fishing this month, we’ve decided to provide a little more background on the three fishing guides who o dialed in the product development of the new Sport Shop fishing line. The second in our series is Eddie Bauer guide, former gourmet chef and the chief public advocate for Katahdin Woods National Park, Lucas St. Clair.

For Sport Shop Fly Fishing Guide Lucas St. Clair, home is Portland, Maine. His grandfather introduced him to fishing in central Maine’s Belgrade Lakes before Lucas had even learned how to walk.
His guiding career began not long after he moved to Seattle in 2005. But he also went to culinary school in Europe, worked in New York restaurants, even owned his own on the coast of Maine. Lucas jokes, “In our guide shop, we always say, ‘You can’t control the angler’s ability. You can’t control the weather. You can’t control the fishing. But you can control lunch.’”
Lucas met First Ascent Mountain Guide Melissa Arnot on a climb of Mt. Rainier. Her involvement with Eddie Bauer impressed him and piqued his interest in joining the Sport Shop Guide Team. His favorite piece is the Immersion Wading Jacket. “Here in the Northwest we do a lot of winter steelhead fishing. Standing in cold, really deep water. There wasn’t a great wading jacket built for that. But this one is. It’s my favorite piece…so far.”
