Lambert showing her strength in the Verdon Gorge

Katie Lambert trains hard. As one of the strongest, rising female big wall free climbers in the world, putting in the work to get fit and strong is mandatory for the climbs she tackles. With the launch of Eddie Bauer’s new Motion line—apparel built for building strength, endurance and fitness in preparation for adventure—we caught up with Lambert to get her short take on the new Motion line, which she put to the test while training for and climbing the sandbagged and historic sport routes in the Verdon Gorge of southern France. —LYA Editor

Why did the Motion styles work well for the type of climbing that you did in the Gorge?

The Motion styles were great for climbing in the Verdon because they are really stretchy allowing for great mobility. The material isn’t too thick or too thin and this allowed for comfort in a range of temperatures.

What specifically do you like about the Resolution Tank?

I love the cut of this tank. It’s very flattering as well as functional. The length allows for the tank to be tucked under the harness without riding up, which I really appreciate. The cut on the back is also very nice as it not only gives a flattering look but it also allows movement in lats and upper back and shoulders. The pattern is also pretty hip.

Why do you like climbing and training in a tank?

I like training and climbing in tanks because they are usually part of a layering system with long-sleeves or jackets on top. I get pretty hot climbing/training so its nice to have the breathability that a tank offers for the arms and armpits.

Why are the Motion styles good for the type of training you do?

Their mobility and comfort are great for training in the climbing gym, the conditioning gym as well as the Pilates studio. They also dry quickly and this is key when sweat is an issue.

What fabric or design characteristics do you look for in your workout gear?

I like breathability, comfort, function, style.

What do you like best about the Motion line?

I like the cut and the fit of the tights very much. I also like the cut of the Resolution Tank. The splatter-type pattern is also cool and I like it in both color as well as black. I think this is a hip line than allows for performance but also looks good.
