Posted on April 29, 2015

On April 25, we were deeply saddened to learn that a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. With over six million people living within 60 miles of the epicenter, the results of the quake were devastating loss of life and infrastructure throughout a community that we are deeply connected to through both our guides and our mountaineering heritage.

In light of this ongoing disaster, Eddie Bauer is making a donation to the American Red Cross Nepal Earthquake Relief efforts, as well as arranging for the donation of gear and clothing to the people impacted by this tragedy. We are working diligently to get this critical gear directly into the hands of the people in the greatest immediate need. Kathmandu, Nepal A 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on 25 April. Authorities report over 700 people have been killed and many buildings have collapsed in the capital, Kathmandu. As search and rescue efforts continue, hospitals in the capital continue to function but are stretched to the limit. Powerful aftershocks continue to be felt, so further damage is a risk, increasing the climate of fear amongst the local population.

The Eddie Bauer guide team and partners currently in the region—Melissa Arnot, Dave Hahn, David Morton, and members of The Heroes Project—are safe and out of harm’s way. To assist with the relief efforts in the region, Eddie Bauer is committing the following resources:

Eddie Bauer Gear: We are currently working through the logistical details to make a substantial product donation of tents and blankets to provide temporary shelter and warmth to those displaced from their homes. We will keep you updated on the Live Your Adventure blog once details are finalized.

K.I.D.S/Fashion Delivers: K.I.D.S/Fashion Delivers, our partner for donating product samples, is working with its partners on the ground to determine how products can be used to help in the earthquake recovery effort.  Much of that assistance comes after the initial rescue and stabilization of the region. We’ll work closely with this organization in the coming months to direct our product samples to the ongoing rebuilding efforts.

Our hearts go out to those impacted by this tragic event.
