Katie Lambert Ticks Lord of Gales and Orion in La Mojarra, Colombia
Posted on August 14, 2015

As we’ve highlighted Mason Earle and Katie Lambert’s climbing trip to La Mojarra, Colombia, we’ve told many of the stories of the trip. From cultural experience and coffee plantations to Mason Earle ticking an ascent of El Espanol (14a), which some have called the hardest route in the country, the journey was a colorful one. But one more story that needs to be told is Katie Lambert’s drive to send routes for short climbers everywhere with a determination that matched her natural strength. She focused on Lord Gales (5.13) and then Orion (5.13) with a creative approach that contrasted the longer reach of the male climbers.

“I was told that no short person had made it through the crux. And I got kind of determined to figure out a way,” Lambert says. “Because I’m small, very often I can’t reach the holds or to reach the holds I need to do some super powerful move or some small intermediates. So it’s kind of cool to just try different things with an open mind. You end up having your own experience.” —LYA Editor
