Working Guide: Dave Hahn at Taos Ski Valley
Posted on February 18, 2016

Dave Hahn has climbed Mt. Everest more times than any non-Sherpa. The world-renowned alpine guide leads clients up Everest, Denali and Rainier, but he also lives a double life at home in Taos, New Mexico. In his off-seasons Hahn holds down a second day job as a longtime ski patroller at Taos Ski Valley. The gig not only keeps him grounded but also keeps his fitness level high and his skills sharp while working at a ski area with a 9,200-foot base level. We caught up with Hahn last winter to track his working routine on the hill from the morning patrol meeting to having a few gluten-free beers in the locker room at the end of the day. As Hahn says about his second day job, “ It keeps me grounded and keeps me focused on what’s important in the mountains.”
